Reverse Mortgage: Preparing for Your Counseling Session (HECM handout from HUD)

A reverse mortgage allows older homeowners to tap into the equity that they have in their homes. With a reverse mortgage, you may borrow against the value of the home and receive loan proceeds according to the selected payment plan. The loan need not be repaid as long as the home remains the principal residence. To qualify, homeowners must be at least 62 years old and the home must be paid off or have a low mortgage balance.
