What does it mean to sacrifice? Have you ever had to save to buy something you really needed? I mean really saved. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you had to make hard choices about something that caused you sacrifice something else?
I’d like to think we all sacrifice at times, but I’m not talking about the small stuff like giving your child the last of the chunky monkey ice cream. I’m talking about deeper sacrifices. For some it may mean sacrificing a part of your past life in order to live a better future. I spoke to a client recently that was so unwilling to give up some of the overspending in their life that they were willing to go hungry.
It’s not for me to tell you what you should give up but I AM here to say if you’re spending excessive amounts of money on things like entertainment, alcohol or cigarettes and sacrificing on things like clothes, house payments and food, you might want to re-evaluate at those priorities.
My friend Kara recently made the following comment “I’m happy to say that we are living well within our means. We are down to my husband’s income and if he lost his job we would be able to survive at least six months on what we have saved. I know he wants a new car for us both but we think realistically that we don’t NEED them. We want…two very different things”.
Never were truer words spoken. She is willing to sacrifice her wants for her needs. That is a great attitude and lesson!! What do you sacrifice for? Please share… I’d love to hear.
